Who I am
My given name is Margaret Jean Schick, but I’ve always gone by Peggy Schick. Interestingly, another astrologer with the same name published a book in 2008 on arabian parts. As I plan to write my own books in the coming years, I’m uncertain about which name to use. Perhaps I’ll create an astrological pen name, like Pisces Starz, or something equally cheesy.
I have Libra Rising, Pisces Sun, Gemini Moon.
I own a practice in Maine called Soulful Wellness, where I offer astrological counseling, regression therapy, and Reiki. I’m also pursuing a PhD in depth psychology with a focus on integrative therapy and healing practices at Pacifica Graduate Institute. I’m excited to start my research next year, which will explore the reciprocal energy and synergy of combining astrology and regression therapy.
How I Met Astrology
It was during my Uranus opposition that I started to pay close attention to my own chart. Following that turning point, I feel like astrology sought me out in a big way. While working in nonprofit advancement, I was laid off or became ill three times, and each time, people seemed to come out of the woodwork to guide me toward astrology, handing me books or introducing me to teachers. Eight years ago, my husband encouraged me to pursue astrology professionally rather than just as a hobby for later years. Once I embraced astrology as my new career, everything fell into place—and my health improved too. Even my body had been begging me to follow my true passion. At 61 years old I’m somewhat late to the field, but there’s no place I’d rather be!
My Credentials and Experience
Early on, someone at the Maine Jung Center handed me a book from Martin Schulman’s Karmic Astrology series, sparking my interest in evolutionary astrology and the broader universal perspective. My sole formal certification is from the Institute for Transpersonal and Archetypal Studies, founded by astrologer and author Keiron LeGrice. I studied with him and a small group in Manhattan over several weekend intensives, and I also completed a similar program in Maine with Arifa Boehler and Alexandra Merrill. These immersive experiences deepened my understanding of my own chart and shaped my approach to client readings and teaching introductory classes.
Other key teachers and influencers who have shaped my understanding of astrology include Rick Tarnas, Glenn Perry, Kevin Burke (his The Complete North Node Book is fantastic), Jeffrey Wolf Green, and Patricia Walsh, among many others. I must also credit my thousands of clients as teachers; since starting Soulful Wellness in 2017, I've learned as much from them as I have from any course of study.
My Current Astrological Interests
Ten years ago, a series of profound spiritual experiences connected a recurring dream, a psychic reading introducing me to my great-grandmother Amelia as my primary spiritual guide, a regression therapy session revealing key moments in Amelia’s life (she passed away 60 years before I was born), and a striking similarity among her natal and death charts and my chart. Awed and inspired by this, I pursued training in regression therapy to help clients explore the healing themes of their charts, whether through past life memories, current life challenges, or transcendent experiences of a mythopoetic type. My primary focus has become healing intergenerational wounding.
In so many ways, we can see that humanity is at a pivotal, critical moment in history. I believe my destiny, supported by my Sun-Chiron cazimi in the 6th House exactly opposite Pluto, is to help people heal their own and their ancestors’ wounds and ultimately to reconnect individuals with their spiritual essence and that of the natural world.
Research
I value NCGR’s serious approach to astrology. As mentioned, my doctoral research will explore the synergy between natal chart interpretation and regression therapy from a depth psychological perspective. This will involve interviews with practitioners who integrate these modalities, and I plan to include their case studies in my research. The study will be qualitative and hermeneutical, but I will also provide compelling practical evidence of how these two approaches complement each other. The synergy between them is both undeniable and beautiful. I’d be thrilled to collaborate with NCGR members as I embark on this research!
